Fern Mallis’ 92Y Talk Series gets Strong Diversity Push from Iman

Iman Speaks to Diversity at 92Y “Fashion Icons” a not so familiar territory at Fashion Week and Runways alike.  Iman 92Y
It was a strong night for fashion diversity as Iman joined the talk series “Fashion Icon” presented by Fern Mallis’ 92Y and spoke nearly two hours. While some consider Iman’s diversity point of view as gripes to a predominantly white industry; Iman simply states
“Nobody is calling anybody a racist, but the action itself, and the absence of black models, is an act of racism.”
Style 601 has published articles referencing the statistical accounts of events such as New York Fashion with very little if any diversity and Iman has been an advocate on the subject since entering the industry in 1975. It seems her prowess on diversity on the runway is just as strong as her Somali(African) heritage and striking beauty.
Iman has recently joined Bethann Hardison’s Diversity Coalition along with Naomi Campbell to spread the message of inclusion. Iman used references like Beyoncé and Rihanna when describing some of the designers taste but points out, “…you are not seeing black models this season?” “What the hell is that?” “…racism”
