Netflix Takes Pick at Sundance

Sundance

Pun intended.

Netflix picks up Rashida Jones produced documentary, “Hot Girls Wanted”.  The daughter of SuperProducer, Quincy Jones platformed her documentary at Sundance Film Festival. The film’s directors Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus also served as producers along with writer and editor Brittany Huckabee.

“Hot Girls Wanted” takes on the hot buttoned porn industry.

According to The Wrap, Erik Barmack, vice-president of global independent content at Netflix,  said “the film exposed a shocking world of hope and heartbreak.” “I am so proud of this movie. ‘Hot Girls’ Wanted manages to tell a very intimate story within the ubiquitous, multibillion dollar and thriving porn industry, a story that will resonate with audiences across the country,” said producer Jones. “Netflix is the ideal partner for us; not only do they understand this film but they’re the perfect platform to reach the many people who need to see it,”

Barmack says, “The filmmakers gained unprecedented access into a world never documented until now, and we are proud to bring their unflinching work to a global audience,”

Neflix’s Golden Ticket

Netflix’s film strategy was also present with a $5 million dollar offer to Sundance’s opening night comedy “The Bronze”,

With still more to prove Netflix’s offer was declined after “The Bronze” accepted a $3 million dollar offer from Relativity that includes a guaranteed theatrical release of 600+ screens.

Netfilx’s film strategy is relativity new compared to the dozens of distributors attending major film festivals like Sundance. Hoping to change the Hollywood system; offers from the online distributor will continue to attract major production in film and tv.
