Fashion Week Shows Little Diversity Improvement

The fashion industry has seen its fair share of super models grace it’s runways but it still posts mediocre results for models of color. This past season only seen a 1 percent increase for this past season’s fashion week.

“Those numbers aren’t surprising. Jezebel, which started compiling data on runway diversity in Fall 2008, found that the number of non-white models cast in NYFW shows increased by only about a single percentage point on the Fall 2014 runways over the previous season, despite the heightened scrutiny.”

The two top agencies reporting were Fusion Model Management and Wilhelmina Model Management at 46.5% and 33.35 respectively for models of color in show packages

“There is definitely more work and a greater demand for Caucasian models. It’s also tougher to find great ethnic models.”

– Jody Gordon, Founder at Fusion Model Management
