Los Angeles County Museum of Art was established in 1961 with an initial donation of $2million dollars and now how holdings of 100,000 works with featured films and concert series that attract more than a million visitors annually.

LACMA celebrated the work of David Hockney and Martin Scorsese at this year’s gala.

A long list of A list stars were attendance, but the event highlight was DiCarprio’s intro and presentation of mentor Scorsese.

WWD reported,

“The evening raised $4.1 million for the museum’s film programs with the help of heavy hitters like Wallis Annenberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Terry Semel, Larry Gagosian, Brian Grazer, Bryan Lourd, Brad Grey, Les Moonves and Bob Iger.

DiCaprio, who has starred in five Scorsese films, introduced his friend and mentor by saying, “When you walk into a museum like LACMA, you are faced with precious works of art. When you meet Marty, you feel the same way because spending time with him is like walking into a world-class film museum. When you work with him, you have the privilege of becoming part of history.”

Scorsese’s long list for filmmaking has inspired countless filmmakers over the years. Check out Scorsese’s Film List for his credited work.

Also, DiCaprio had this to say about Artist David Hockney.

“I’m a collector of art myself, but I haven’t had the privilege of buying one of your paintings because they’re so goddamned expensive.”

Hockney spends most of his time in his native home of London but is known for his works painted in Los Angeles starting 50 years ago.
