Legendary Gets New Deal With NBCUniversal

Legendary, the studio that brought us Inception, 42, the Dark Knight Trilogy, The HangOver, Man of Steel, and other Warner Bros titles has a new home.the_hangover

NBCUniversal. Legendary’s interest in expanding into TV combined with NBCUniversal’s theme park brand gives their intellectual property more viable options. On the flip side Legendary’s titles will make NBCUniversal’s new pact with China Film Group a more profitable venture.

According to THR, Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment have officially agreed to enter into a five-year production and co-financing partnership, starting in 2014, in which Universal will market and distribute Legendary’s movies worldwide.

Legendary has decided to up its stake in financing covering 75% percent of Pacific Rim’s $200 million budget.

“Comcast and NBCUniversal’s global assets in film, television and theme parks offer Legendary unmatched breadth and opportunity to grow our business. We are delighted to be in business with this exceptional team and look forward to a successful partnership,” Legendary CEO Thomas Tull said in a statement.

Legendary’s upcoming slate includes an adaptation of Warren Ellis’ comic book series Gravel; a film set in the interactive game universe Warcraft; Hot Wheels, based on the iconic toy-car line; and Mass Effect, based on Electronic Arts and BioWare’s video game franchise.

It’s been reported that Warcraft and Hot Wheels will $100 million plus budgets.
