Slated Brings Web Based Film Development To Independent Filmmakers

Slated.com a web based crowdfunding site allows film investors to evaluate projects for funding. This new source will be amongst other crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter.  As a fellow filmmaker I will be turning my attention to the new site as well.

Filmmakers will now have a credible source and a way to get their product to the higher ups while interested investors get the chance to find their next big hit. I love the idea of opening  non traditional doors for filmmaking. Over the next few years the next generation marketplace for investing in film will be a film style trending topic. Copyright holders should still get legal advice or representation while seeking project funding. Slated will evaluate each applicant so there’s no instant guarantee that you will be on the site just because you sign up.

Slated is live and free for its introductory services and according to deadline.com.
The list of investors include U.S.-based investors The Black List; Bold Films; Caliber Media Co; Circle of Confusion; Company 3; Deluxe; Echo Lake Entertainment; Film Independent (FIND); International Documentary Association (IDA); Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP); IM Global; Preferred Content; Submarine Entertainment; Sundance Institute; Technicolor; Three Point Capital; Tribeca Film Institute; Untitled Entertainment; Voltage Pictures; and XYZ Films. Overseas participants include Backup Films (France); Bankside Films (UK); Dynamo (Colombia); Prescience (UK); Rezo Films (France); Salt (UK); Stargate Capital (UK); and WestEnd Films (UK).

Obama has without a doubt gained a lot of Hollywood support this election season by bringing in the “Jumpstart Our Business Startups” JOBS ACT.

Web based crowdfunding is a growing medium for developing projects and filmmakers are sure to benefit.  I’m sure new media projects will see an increase in production with this new technology too. Will the next Spielberg, Spike Lee, or Scorsese be found in web based film development?
